For anyone purchasing their first home, Stamp duty land tax (SDLT) is paid on all purchases above 125,000 on a sliding scale. Under the new rules, all property owners purchasing an additional property to their main residence are affected by the rise in SDLT.

Send a quote on first page and then additional charges broken down over 2 pages.so the initial figure on page 1 isn't the fee.make sure you read everything as they try and draw you in by outlining prices without VAT and only part of the service On top of that you have people answering calls with so much attitude, not professional at all

Absolutely excellent service. We were first time buyers and didn't have a clue what we were doing. Sarah was our solicitor and went above and beyond to help us through and understand the processes of buying our house. Divorce handled by Jane Maton, draconian attitude, I have been left without money, without my self esteem and everyday is a struggle to feed my children, yet they didn't care about my case whatsoever making major mistakes along the way. In the end I bought law books, prepared my own bundles, represented myself and succeeded without the help of this "solicitor".
I then found an amazing solicitor in Chigwell who finalised my papers for 900, not for the tens of thousands of pounds paid to this firm. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR MATRIMONIAL LAW. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH INTO SOLICITORS BEFORE PARTING WITH YOUR MONEY!

Sarah Mitchinson and her Martin Shepherd team handled a property sale on my behalf. There were several additional requests and delays on the buyer's side that made the process more complex than anticipated. The legal work is undoubtedly the most frustrating part of any property sale, and having used several conveyancers in the past (from small independents to national firms to lender appointed call centres) I have never held this bunch in high regard. Not answering phone calls, paperwork being wrong or getting lost, not keeping you up to date about progress, solicitors on both sides blaming each other for delays - almost anyone I could think of who has ever bought or sold a property will probably have had similar experiences.
Not so with Martin Shepherd. Sarah Duncombe, who handled my property sale, was a breath of fresh air. Efficient, thorough (uncovering and dealing with issues that other less capable solictors will have missed), responsive (always answering emails even if via her secretary, and returning calls personally on the same day), patient and very clear in talking us through any questions, knowledgeable, persistent.
At every step I felt that I could fully trust Sarah to be acting in our best interests. I never thought I would be recommending a conveyancer, but that is how thoroughly excellent and professional Sarah's service was.
